For more than 10 years, Mary lived in a series of residential care homes. Neither Mary nor her mum felt any of these met her needs.
In 2010, Affinity Trust began supporting Mary to live independently in her own home, providing one-to-one support.
Life is very different for Mary now. She is in control of making decisions about her life and what she wants to do.
The biggest change is that Mary now lives in her own bungalow. She manages her own money, including paying her rent and bills.
She has regained some of her confidence and improved her cookery skills – she loves to make her own spaghetti Bolognese. She’s also improved her skills in cleaning, gardening and shopping.
Since leaving residential care, Mary has made positive progress in her life. Mary used to feel quite anxious but, now she has a consistent and personalised support team, she feels much calmer and more relaxed.
Mary enjoys getting out and about. With the help of her support team, she uses the bus and likes to plan trips. Whether this is visiting a car boot sale, going on a special day trip, or simply enjoying a coffee, Mary relishes her independence.
