Meet Harry – Support manager

"My passion for the job has never waned. I think this is because, every day is different and because of the values the company has - not just caring for the people we support, but supporting them to achieve everything they want to achieve. Not seeing obstacles, but looking for solutions."
Harry
Harry works as a Support manager in Ayr, Scotland, having joined Affinity Trust (then known as TACT) in 2002. He manages the staff teams supporting five gentlemen, all who live in their own homes.
Harry was not from a care background before he joined Affinity Trust. In fact, Harry had been a taxi driver for 24 years (which he didn't really enjoy) and it was a chance meeting with a young man who was being supported to move to his own home, whilst working, that led Harry to consider a career move to support work. He chatted to the man and his support worker during the journey for two hours, thinking "I could do that".
And that's exactly what Harry did, firstly as a bank worker, confirming he loved the work and was exactly suited to it, then shortly after on a permanent contract. After gaining further experience he then became house leader the following year. In 2005 Harry was offered the role of Deputy Manager (now known as Support manager), and thrived on the additional responsibilities.
Harry enjoys his job and continues to work in this role to date.
