What is shared living?

Joanne, Support Manager talks about life for Gillian and Martin in the residential home.

Affinity Trust manage a number of homes across the country where small numbers of supported people live together in shared accommodation. Whether support is being paid for by a local authority or out of a person’s own pocket, Affinity Trust can create a plan to meet the needs of every individual.

The support we offer our residents is always tailored to individual needs whilst promoting a person’s independence, dignity and right to live the way they want in their own individual space. We know this approach is important to those we support and we have seen how happy it has made our residents.

Shared living in action

Both Gillian and Martin have high level needs and require 24 hr care. Joanne, Service Manager at Hough Top home in Leeds tells us about day to day life for Martin and Gillian.

Support Staff try to ensure they can both lead fulfilling and happy lives by helping them pursue things they enjoy such as holidays and trips to the shops.

Like so many of the people supported by Affinity Trust, this wasn’t always the case and Martin has battled hard to establish the independence he values so much today.
