Meet Jake
Affinity Trust has given me confidence and independence and allowed me to get into the community.
Jake
Jake is 20 years old and since leaving special school a few years ago, Affinity Trust has supported Jake. Before then, without support, he rarely went out because he felt much more secure in his home environment.
Jake's support team have worked to increase his confidence to get out more and do things he has always wanted to do. They have supported Jake to attend various venues and events and he now participates in a whole range of activities including bowling, gardening, football matches, swimming and college.
Jake commented 'I like the company of having support, it feels good as I can let the support worker know how things are going. Sometimes I talk to them about problems and sometimes positive things; it's a bit of a mixture. I used to have support to go to bowling all the time, but my support staff have made me feel confident enough to travel on my own. I now take myself on the bus which is a nice feeling"
Jake has also joined a local gardening club and really enjoys composting. Staff support him with tasks such as recognising plants and pruning three times a month. He really enjoys being outdoors in the local community.
'I am a lot more independent and enjoying life more now as I am able to get out more into the community. It's good as I occasionally bump into people I know, which is nice, as I can stop and talk to them. I feel Affinity Trust has given me the confidence and independence and allowed me to get into the community'
