Meet Gillian

Gillian

It’s just everyday activities that everyone enjoys in life.

Joanne, Service Manager on how Gillian spends her time

Gillian lived in a hospital environment until she was 50 and was then able to move in with her community carer Jean (who became not only her long term carer but friend also) under a housing scheme project. Jean had previously cared for Gillian in hospital and had built up a good relationship over the years. In 2009 when Jean became ill, Affinity Trust started to support Gillian. With involvement from both Jean and Gillian's family she then moved to shared living accommodation.

Gillian needs a high level of support and has limited communication and movement but her team are committed to ensuring she leads a fulfilling and happy life, doing the things she enjoys such as spending time with her cat, Savannah, making trips to the local shops and listening to music.

Since moving to her new home, Gillian has been supported to obtain a wheelchair accessible car which has enabled her to visit places and enjoy activities of interest. She was able to go on a holiday in Bridlington, a place she loved to visit with Jean.

Last year saw Gillian's team plan a 70th birthday celebration party, attended by her family and friends and Gillian appeared to really enjoy this.
