Meet Derek and William
I have my own independence and I can make my own bed. I like living with my brother Derek.
William talks about supported living
William and Derek are brothers and lived in their family home until 2006. After this time they moved into a sheltered housing complex with another provider but unfortunately it did not meet their needs and their support broke down.
Affinity Trust were asked to help William and Derek by providing round the clock support. We took this over and within the next few months worked hard to restore William and Derek's faith in the support sector in general. The brothers were involved in the decision making which ensured we meet their needs and allowed us to build up a good relationship with them.
In March 2007 we helped William and Derek move into a brand new house that fits their needs perfectly. The only minor drawback was the distance from the nearest town centre. With this in mind, Affinity Trust supported Derek to get a car through the motobility scheme and this has greatly helped with the brothers' independence. During the good weather they are always out and about, spending time in their local community and visiting the shops
They are now happy and healthy and have busy lives. Many new opportunities are now available to them. Derek recently fulfilled an ambition and took his first flight abroad. William was not able to go on such a long flight but thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Blackpool for the week. They now regularly go on holidays together and independently from each other.
Family members still keep regular contact, but are now relaxed and confident with the level and standard of support William and Derek now receive.
