Winnie is an older woman with a learning disability who has a good level of independence. She believes support from Affinity Trust allows her to do the things she wants to. Winnie has an active life. She enjoys socialising with her friends, doing crafts, playing bingo, and going for walks. She also enjoys the time she spends with her support team. She is very happy with the support she gets from Affinity Trust.
Lorraine, one of Winnie’s support workers, describes Winnie as being “fiercely independent”, and Lorraine believes that taking independence away from Winnie by doing everything for her would ‘take away a part of Winnie herself’. Therefore, Winnie’s support team is keen to maintain her confidence in herself and promote her independence. This approach is key to our model of supported living – we aim to support people to do things for themselves.
