Affinity Trust is a national charity providing person-centred, innovative support for people with learning disabilities and/or autism in the UK. We have a history of working with people who have a range of support needs including those who have high, complex or specialist support needs as well as people who have previously been labelled as having ‘challenging’ reputations. We focus on the individual and their particular needs and work with them to achieve their goals and aspirations.
Originally known as TACT (Thames and Chiltern Trust), Affinity Trust was set up in December 1991 to provide support services for people with learning disabilities who were leaving long-stay hospitals across Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
Driven by our core belief that adults with learning disabilities have the right to access the very best support in order to live fulfilling lives, we quickly came to specialise in the provision of high-quality, tailored support for people with complex and challenging needs.
Since 1991 we have grown steadily and we are proud to now support over 900 people in 35 local authority areas across England and Scotland. We support adults across the learning disability spectrum but in particular we have developed a strong track record of supporting those with more complex and/or high-support needs, including people who other organisations have not been able to support appropriately.
Our name change to Affinity Trust marked the strengthening and development of our organisation as we are increasingly recognised as a support provider of choice in the local community.
What We Do
Here at Affinity Trust, we are dedicated to supporting people with learning disabilities to live the lives they want to. Whether helping someone to live in their own home, providing opportunities to make new friends, experience new things or gain work that is rewarding and enjoyable, Affinity Trust aims to ensure that those we support have the opportunity to live life to its fullest. Our mission and values are at the core of our service.
Many of the people we support have come from institutional settings and we have worked with them to transform their level of independence and often, as a result, their quality of life. Supported living is our main area of support, and we are committed to offering this model for people with learning disabilities in preference to typical residential care homes.
